The Emir of Kaura Namoda, Alhaji Sanusi Ahmad-Asha, has called for collective action to enhance girl-child education across Zamfara State.
Speaking in Kaura Namoda on Monday while receiving a delegation from Media and Publicity Consult (MPC), the emir emphasized the need for urgent intervention to address challenges hindering girls’ access to education.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the advocacy visit was part of the Integrated Marketing Communications Campaign (IMCC), aimed at tackling harmful social norms affecting girls’ education. The initiative aligns with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project, currently being implemented in Zamfara.
Commending the initiative, the emir lauded Governor Dauda Lawal for declaring a state of emergency in the education sector, noting that such measures could drive improvements at all levels. He also praised AGILE for its role in raising awareness and fostering positive change regarding girl-child education in the state.
“Education is crucial for development, especially for girls. Addressing the challenges they face requires a united effort from all stakeholders,” Ahmad-Asha stated.
He further highlighted key barriers to girls’ education, including insecurity, parental attitudes, and low community involvement.
The emir urged the government and well-meaning individuals to prioritize girls’ education, particularly in rural communities where access remains limited. He also recommended introducing empowerment programs with incentives to equip girls with skills and discourage street hawking.
“Providing scholarships and other rewards for girls will serve as motivation and encourage them to stay in school,” he added.
Speaking earlier, MPC team leader Prof. Ahmad Liman, represented by Malam Nasiru Biyabiki, underscored the importance of educating girls in shaping a better society.
“We are here for advocacy and to engage with key stakeholders at the palace. We appreciate the emir’s support and commitment to ensuring the success of this initiative,” Biyabiki stated.
The meeting also featured a focus group discussion on strategies to enhance girl-child education in Zamfara.
